Fever II

The fever looked bent to stay.

Today is considered the 3rd day of his fever.

In the early morning, medication, sponging and monitoring till 3am of which temperature fall back to normal ~ 37 degrees. Complacency on my end for not monitoring further till 7am in the morning, shoot up to high 38. Fed milk, sponge, paracetamol.

After bathing and teabreak of cereal, realised his temp rebound close to 39 again. Made up my mind to make a trip to PD which is 1/2 day today being a saturday. Zethan is super fussy and whiney at the PD's, sticky and even refused to have his temp and weight taken. Realised he missed his naptime so can't be bothered, wait inside the clinic which I am usually against the idea. He slept for a short 15mins or so before we are brought to the waiting room. As his temp is high, PD came in to ask about the onset of his fever and suggest suppository insertion (which is brufen to be exact but onset of action much quicker) lest fits might occur due to the high temp. Oh man, my heart shattered into pieces though was assured it's not painful, just discomfort. I had to make him down lots of water and sponge him while waiting.

PD examined his ears, lungs, throats and noted a slightly sore throat with diagnosis of viral infection. The yo yo-ing of fever is likely to continue anything between 2-4 days thus meanwhile to watch out for any unusual signs and symptoms (to see a doctor). Should fever refuse to subside on mon noon then back to see him again.

The whole afternoon, fever appear to subside despite him taking a 3hrs nap which is very rare. Temp went back to normal. However after dinner, check his temp for monitoring purposes only to realise that it shot up again. Gosh, it is very draining mentally for me in particular as I tend to get stressed up and tense when the temp increase.

Back to sponging, paracetamol again. By this time the suppository had lost its effect and oral dose was recommended to be administered if necessary. Then I suggested for daddy to bring him along to grab some fever patch in case of emergency in the middle of the night. Looks like a wise choice as he return perspiring and fever subside a tad.

Before he went to bed, sponge him extensively and while I am blogging this post now, the temp is in the region of 37.7 will decide if paracetamol is necessary at 12am.
