Mummy's darling boi is cleared of jaundice which call for a celebration!

Yesterday we went to the polyclinic for a review and was so happy that the level went down to 58 and require no further review translating to no more heel prick which mummy is really heartpain to see BB Zethan being pricked.

Anyhow BB Zethan is a brave boi and only let out a short wail.

BB Zethan is 16 days old today.

He gave mummy a big CNY gift in the early morning of CNY! As Grandma went back home for CNY prayers, mummy and daddy are left alone to care for BB Zethan. All went well untill his feed at about 3am. He got all cranky and refuse to sleep till 9am in the morning. What's worst is he refuse to lie in his cot and demand to be carried and rocked the whole morning. Tried all methods on him namely applying oil on the tummy, change diaper, feeds etc but apparently all failed.

He could fall asleep in my arms but when attempting to place him slowly back in his cot, he wailed 1 min later! On a side note, was glad that I manage to latch him on for like 15mins (out of desperation, decide to give it a try). It was only after the latch on and supplementing with FM (formula milk) that he manage to slip into la-la land. Mummy dare not fall alseep fearing going into deep sleep out or tireness and would not be able to hear him since he's so cranky. Mummy was so very glad when Grandma is back and fall asleep peacefully.

Today, grandma said that BB Zethan is having flu / stuffed nose and should consider to being him to the doctor. However as it is the 2nd day of CNY, many of the GPs are still closed for holiday, wondering should we bring him to KKH A&E. So heartpain to see him breathing hard. Grandma manage to fish out the 'gold' after several attempts which appear to make him sleep beter and breathe easier.

12 days since the arrival of our little prince BB Zethan.

Zethan's drinking 80ml of FM / EBM currently every 2.5 - 3 hourly, just increased from the usual 70ml.

Zethan's umbilical cord was hanging by a thin thread during his morning bath and came off after changing his diaper. Airing his umbilical cord for consideration to be made into a Umbilical Cord Stamp also known as "Wealth Stamp" which can bring baby good wealth and health.

a quick summary of Zethan's birth story....

11 Jan 09 - spotting...pinkish and brownish discharge..gynae say possible early labour...see him in clinic tomoro morning

12 Jan 09

7.30am - while still asleep...feel sumthing flowing out. went to bathroom...shd b waterbag leaking....call gynae...to see him in TMC...went for bath...more aminotic fluid gushing.

8.15am - last min packing...mild contractions start abt 25mins apart

8.35am - set off to TMC...luckily no jam

8.55am - reach TMC labour ward, change in observation room, strap on CTG

9.15am - Dr Woody does VE, abt 2-3cm dilated, confirm delivering today. Ask if taking epi? told him trying to go natural is possible which he say is good. predict shd deliver ard 2-5pm. Hubby does admission.

9.25am - shave, insert fleet enema to clear bowel...gota run to washroom within mins...more of fluid gushes out...

9.40am - transfer to birth room...insert IV + Syntocin...contractions abt 5mins apart...to increase dose every 30 mins to increase contractions.

11.10am - dosage increase to 36...nurse ask if im scared cos she say bb seem excited?? contractions 3 mins apart....pain managable.

12.10am - dosage at abt 72...pain increasing...ask for ethanox (laughing gas) which dun realli help...feel very high...contractions 2 mins apart...vaguely heard dr woody around...say will be back lata and take care...

1pm - by now...too high on ethanox yet doesnt help relieve much on the pain (cant recall much at this point of time liaoz...all based on recounts from hb)....ask for pethidine which feels like forever....nurse does VE say abt 6-7cm dilated but bb still high up...can still recall asking hw much more shd the labour be? was told arga abt another 3hrs...

2+pm - very intense contractions...was feeling helpless and very strong urge to POO...was rest assured that it's natural cos bb pressing on rectum but dats the urge to push....if realli poo..will get assistance to clean up which is fine! cannot tahan anymore...request for epi...nurse check VE...say called gynae oreadi on the way....nothing mention abt epi (no yes or no)...shifted bed and prepare all necessary equipments in place (activate the incubator which let off a musical tune, how very sweet)... after wat feels like forever...midwife assist to try pushing while waiting for gynae to help bb move down birth canal...did a few pushes.

Finally woody arrive...try a few pushes but unsuccessful....2 midwifes helping to push bb in tummy downwards wif great force (machiam like pushing car to jump start)...was reminded by dr woody not pushing well..not pushing down there (think im just squirming my face with force only)....got the technique...feel episiotomy....can feel BB's head wif the right technique to push...

3.03pm - BB Zethan arrives! when placed on tummy, ask why he's not crying. meanwhile can feel woody tugging at the V area mayb for placenta...a while lata over at the incubator side can hear BB cry..nurse say mummy say bb not crying so must cry louder for her... feel LA at V...was told to continue inhaling ethanox deeply...was super super high but feel the stitching machiam done at super high speed....

vaguely hear woody saying mummy falling asleep...think ethanox was being removed and a while later...was allowed to carry bb before he took his weight & measurement.... can still recall after bb was whisked off...woody said all done...can still joke wif him asking if he's sure it's a boi! he still reply u mean u din verify. say bb arrive early oso good...can have angpao for cny...told him ppl pantang and he say shd not b la...which era we are in now...then thanks him while he exclaimed anxiously going to check out bb weight....

been a while since mummy is here to update our blog!

as the caption has it, BB Zethan arrived on 12 Jan 2009 at Thomson Medical Centre at 1503pm. Our little prince weighs 2960g at birth and measures 49cm in length.

couragous mummy went through natural birth without epidural to deliver the little precious bundle of joy and it was indeed an amazing and unforgettable experience never ever to be forgotten! By and large it was considered as a pretty short labour considering the fact that this is mummy's 1st baby.

daddy was with mummy throughout the whole labour process and remark that indeed it is such an excitable and amazing process. daddy's presence and participation in the birth process did lend mummy the necessary helping hand in terms of courage and motivation. Accordingly to daddy, then moment BB Zethan is born, he was so anxious and readily armed with our camera to shoot for him.

shall blog about our birth story when time permits. currently both BB and mummy are trying to adapt to the new environment and getting used to each other, a learning curve for both! time never seem to be sufficient in a day!

37 weeks 6 days

observe to be having light pinkish and brownish discharge intermittently after breakfast this morning. experience some cramps with hardening but not on a regular basis with no specific frequency.

decide to monitor further before calling gynae for further advice. did last minute washing and assembling of strollers in case it's showtime tonight!

called Dr Woody around 7pm and told him about the signs. He verify a few details before commenting it could be early labour and to see him in his clinic tomorrow morning. Asked for what signs to press the panic button and he mentioned so long as BB is moving, should be fine. In the event of waterbag leak/bursting, more intense cramping or heavy bleeding then would have to call him immediately.

have read that this is possibly what is known as 'show' however it does not means that labour will progress soon after. Actual labour might be a few days to weeks later.

Daddy is asking BB to hang on for 2 more weeks if not then one more week as he's gonna be busy with work.

so as of now, it's BB's call!

even his mummy and daddy are both driving Japanese cars yet this lucky chap here will be having a continental sports car! all thanks to his daddy who took a fancy to it and insisted on having one!

to be fitted with Maxi Cosi Cabriofix (infant car seat) when BB Zethan's younger. Should only lasted till BB Zethan turn 6 months old or less.

looks like the nesting instinct kick in as mummy is constantly jumping up amid whatever she is doing to either pack the hospital bag or sudden reminder on what need to be packed / washed tomorrow! ironically the hospital bag remain 3/4 packed and lying at home instead of being placed in the car. In a dilemma as to whose car should we placed the hospital bag as well.

more complains coming up....mummy's face is so oily and she is facing very bad outbreak out of the blue for the past 2 weeks or so. It's so obvious that people around her started asking about it. Bedtime is tough as well with turning to change sides being such a chore and the nagging pain when she sleep on her side. Every turn that she has to make, her sleep was disturbed. In the night in particular, she experienced quite abit of cramping in the lower abdomen or tightening with a little pain. She has lost the ability to identify what is cramping, contraction, Braxton Hicks or purely BB Zethan's movements with his fists/knees.

For the past week, mummy took leave to have a long weekend + public holiday and she try to do as much laundry as possible with lots of packing and organising done around the whole house. there is this constant nagging voice at the back of her mind reminding her to get everything done fast for fear Zethan choose to announce his arrival earlier.

Visited Dr Woody on 02 Jan (mummy and daddy's 1st wedding anniversary) and his clinic is very packed despite reaching there late morning probably as his clinic is closed for 2 days for the holidays. He seem to rush through the review and make mummy panic with the questions she had for him. BB Zethan is growing well with a good weight of 2.7kg @ 36 weeks. Strept B test normal meaning -ve. Checking with him on the pain while sleeping on the side, he assure that there's no cause for alarm as it's due to the pressure on the womb thus the pain arise. He reminded mummy to monitor Zethan's movements and ensure a minimum of 10 movements within a day (continous movement considered as 1 count). Mummy asked him again how to identify contractions and he said the womb will tighten with pain and release with the intensity and frequency increasing. Asked which part of the abdomen it occur and was told any part of the tummy regardless of top, bottom or side. Next appointment shall be in a week's time.

as mentioned, it was mummy and daddy's 1st wedding anniversary and they decided to have Zhou's Kitchen dimsum high-tea. The absolute wrong move they made was to go for the newly opened branch at Jurong Point. Although the place is huge but the crowd is maddening and seats placement are bad being so closed to each other, too closed for comfort in fact. what upset mummy further is that it is not ala-carte buffet but normal buffet style and the food selection and taste is totally not up to standard as compared to Alexandra branch. Mummy have never been so critical in any restaurant / food but this is one absolute case that she condemned and complain all the way. To make things worst, we are seated behind a huge group of typical aunties in a family yelling at the top of their voices, better off to be in a market. That explains why there is no single photo taken at all.

Went to pickup Hong Zhao wine and bean husks pillow from grandma and for the 1st time she did not commented that mummy's tummy is so small! However she is still lamenting about BB Zethan's weight being rather low. She is very confident that BB Zethan will not be arriving that soon as mummy is still carrying her tummy very high. She is pretty sure that most probably will be close to CNY or even post CNY.

on a side note before ending the blog, mummy have been hearing a pop sound coming from inside the tummy on several ocassions. Initially she refused to believe it thinking it must be her imagination but after hearing for various times, she's firmed it is from the tummy. Amazingly but true!

Mummy, Daddy and BB Zethan wishes all a Happy New Year!!!

The 1st post for a new start of the new year. Mummy is confined at home without any activity. She wanted to soak in the fun at the various countdown locations especially that of fireworks watching but was worried about the traffic jams and crowds so decide to stay at home and be a good mummy. Daddy say "You think you can walk like before ar? What about toilet breaks?"

Caught a glimpse of the fireworks at our windows, miserable bits of it. Better off watching it on the television. Maybe next year we will bring Zethan fireworks watching!
